At Handy Wellness we participate in practice and integrative medicine approach. This approach says that all medicine brings value When you use the proper time and place. Ayurveda Medicine is one of those contributors and the discipline that is interesting to explore due to its ancient tradition. Fall and winter is the Vata time of year.

It is important to be grounded during this time of year. When are grounded our mind is at ease and we are able to stop the racing thoughts that create anxiety.

In Ayurveda medicine, there are three energetic forces of nature also known as Doshas. Vata, Pita, and Kapha. Each are essential to our physiology in some way. Each has a very essential role to play in our bodies. When the Doshas are out of balance the wreak havoc on her health.

Fall is the season of Vata.

Vata embodies the energy of movement and is therefore often essential with wind and air element. Vata is linked to creativity and flexibility. It governs all movement--the flow of the breath, the pulsation fo the heart, all muscle contractions, tissue movements, cellular mobility, and communication throughout t he ,mind and nervous system. So eating food and exercising around Vata will help keep the Dosha in balance When Vata is out of balance we experienced nervousness, anxiety, panic and fear

Symptoms that might mean Vata is out of balance

Diet

Food is one way to help us ground.Warm mushy food are the best grounding foods for fall and winter.

Start your day with steel cut oatmeal with cooked apples and cinnamon. I like mine with Lavender infused Almond Milk, and locally sourced honey.

Non-Dairy Corn chowder or vegetable soups are other ideas for warm foods that help during this time of year.

At night when the munchies hit while watching Netflix--instead of reaching for chips and pretzels, reach for:

  1. Coconut wrap with turkey and cranberry

  2. Gluten-free crackers with almond butter

  3. Chamomile, passionflower, Or Valerian tea

  4. Warm goats milk eve her with two and a dash of cinnamon

  5. Small glass of tart carrot cherry juice

Warm spices like ginger, cinnamon and cumin--but not hot spices like Cayenne.

During the Vata season avoid too much raw food especially in the morning or the evening.

Lifestyle

Rely on regular daily routine of eating sleeping working and exercise keep me warm no matter what the weather. Surround yourself with sweet soothing music smells and scenes.
